Listen to Visão do Paraíso (“Vision of Paradise”), a small collection of instrumental music that I composed and recorded in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, with the participation of Antonio Mello (guitar) and Carlos Malta (soprano saxophone and Chinese flute). The three tracks blend Brazilian music with jazz and world music. Also included are soundscapes of the Atlantic Rainforest, recorded by Beto Bertolini on his albums Waterscapes and Atlantic Forest. The image you see in the video is the view from my house in the West Zone of Rio, looking towards the mountains of the Tijuca National Forest in the east. The Rio landscape was not just the inspiration of this music but also of my record label, Arabutã World Music (arabutã is the indigenous name for the Brazilwood tree, after which Brazil was named).
